CATTLE - BEEF

According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, the Kansas beef cattle industry is ranked the third largest in the United States, boasting 6.45 million head in 2020. Beef is a sustainable, important source of protein required by the human body for brain function, building muscle and creating antibodies our immune system needs to protect us from illness. When processed, sixty percent of the cow is used for select meat cuts or hamburger, while the other 40% is rendered into by-products. Every aspect of the cow is used in everyday products from paint brushes to to insulin.
The Education Center boasts a Beef Cattle display that shows what they eat, meat cuts and many of the by-products of cattle. In the Prairie Pavilion (Beef Barn), students can also view different breeds of cattle and depending on the time, a Breed show.
